Huntz Liu

Biography

Huntz Liu is a Los Angeles-based artist whose meticulously layered paper compositions explore the interplay between form, depth, and spatial illusion. Working primarily with hand-cut paper, Liu constructs abstract works that challenge perception through bold geometry, vivid color, and dimensional precision. His process, rooted in both meticulous craft and intuitive design, transforms flat surfaces into dynamic structures that appear to bend, fold, and collapse in on themselves.

Liu’s practice is informed by a lifelong fascination with architectural forms, graphic design, and optical art. His artworks draw viewers into constructed spaces that feel at once tangible and intangible, Liu states, "My work deals with the layering and removal of material. It presents a visual language that unflattens two dimensional form and gives weight to line and edge." Each piece is the result of a deeply considered layering technique, in which sheets of colored paper are stacked and cut by hand to reveal sharp intersections and spatial illusions.

Liu has exhibited widely across the United States and internationally. His work has garnered attention for its unique materiality and conceptual clarity, positioning him at the forefront of contemporary paper-based art. Through his continued investigation of form and structure, Huntz Liu invites audiences to reconsider the boundaries of visual space, one precise cut at a time.
