GATS - 20 Years of GATS

SAN FRANCISCO - Harman Projects is pleased to announce 20 Years of GATS, a solo exhibition celebrating the two decade long career of California-based artist GATS.
An acronym for ‘Graffiti Against The System”, GATS is an international graffiti legend, whose public art can be found across the United States, Middle East, Europe, Asia and Central America. Known for the iconic mask seen prominently throughout the artist's work, the face of GATS can often be spotted peering out from an alley way or stretched across a rooftop, greeting passerby's with it's all-seeing gaze. Representing knowledge, activism, and community,, GATS' iconic totem has been evolved with intricate insignia over the years, speaking to the artist's autobiographical experiences.
Utilizing recycled and found objects as canvases, the artist works with a variety of mediums, building bridges between the contemporary and the past. Many of the objects carry significant meaning to the artist, serving as a journal to their travels while also incorporating references to their well-known graffiti work.
20 Years of GATS opens on Saturday, November 1st with a reception from 5 pm - 7 pm.
