NEW YORK CITY— Harman Projects is pleased to announce You Won’t Always Feel This Way, the latest solo exhibition by NYC-based artist Chris RWK. Following up on the artist's 2023 solo exhibition with Harman Projects, Chris RWK returns with a body of work exploring texture and how it relates to things like time, emotions and inspirations.
Drawing inspiration from cartoons, comic books and his time as a graffiti writer, the artist has created a case of cartoon-like characters that he has been developing over the past two decades. Centered in this cast of well-known characters is the eponymous robot and most iconic image in Chris RWK’s work. These characters are revisited throughout the work, and can be found holding hearts, gathered in groups and sharing positive and hopeful messages while peering expectantly back at the viewer.
While working on You Won’t Always Feel This Way, the artist spent time looking back on earlier archive works, some dating back over 25 years. A selection of these archive works will be exhibited in tandem with the new series, including stencils and Chris RWK’s first t-shirt design, creating a deeper narrative and lineage of the artist's multi-decade practice.
About the exhibition, Chris RWK states, “a lot of the new pieces include layering and sanding. The feeling of gain and loss to reveal an end. The textures also show the layers of time that we encounter everyday. Things like walls being painted over and over again. The layers tell a story just like the rings inside a tree.”
You Won’t Always Feel This Way opens on Saturday, February 15th with a reception from 6 pm - 8 pm. For additional information, images, and feature interview content, email us at info@harmanprojects.com
